The Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) is an alternative payment model (APM) launched in 2012, creating Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) aimed at improving quality and lower costs for traditional fee-for-service Medicare beneficiaries.1 Participation in the program is voluntary, and entrants historically could select from 1 of 4 unique tracks with varying levels of financial risk and reward.
