Web Information Architect/Content Strategist


Position Summary:

As a key member of the User Experience team the Web Information Architect/Content Strategist will be responsible for the information architecture across Zappos sites. This will include helping define and refine product categorization, content IA strategy, intuitive search and navigation. The Information Architect/Content Strategist will be involved in all phases of the UX process as part of the user centered design methodology of Zappos, including concept development, user research, prototyping and execution.

The Web Information Architect/Content Strategist roles and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

-    Working with merchandising and product information departments to help develop and manage the content taxonomies for large-scale projects, including the architecture, content strategy and final content structure.
-    Organize and manage content for large-scale projects, including creating information hierarchies and structures. Create compelling content strategies based on user needs, business objectives, and product knowledge.
-     Understand what it takes to iterate your concepts to excellence. Use methodologies such as user research, competitive analysis, web analytics and content audits, to ensure high quality IA design and content delivery.
-    Collaborate with merchandising, marketing, product managers, UI designers, and developers to drive the development of compelling user experiences.
-     Communicate, present and justify recommendations with a solid rationale to User Experience Manager, UX team members, and other relevant departments/decision makers.
-    Analyze data and current workflow to evaluate the effectiveness of existing content categorization. Help create an optimized customer-centric content strategy and push towards continuous improvement.
-    Uphold and evangelize content quality standards. Help the team in shaping and maintaining consistent writing style, voice and architecture across the site.
-     Contribute to a culture of innovation and teamwork with measurable positive results.
-    Provide thought leadership and drive a strong customer point of view on content structuring/strategy within Zappos.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

-    5+ years industry related experience.
-     Excellent understanding of user experience design for the Web, with an emphasis on information architecture. Strong preference given for consumer facing product experience.
-    Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with all levels in the organization.
-    Excellent oral and written communication.
-    Strong organizational and project management skills.
-    Demonstrated leadership skills and a strategic orientation.
-    Working knowledge of user centered design processes, industry standards and trends.
-    A team player who can easily adapt in a rapidly changing/evolving environment.
-    The ability and willingness to mentor junior level staff.
-    Strong online, library, and other research skills.
-    BS/BA in Library Sciences or similar degree or equivalent professional experience.
-    Experience with online communities, user generated content, deep content sites and content management systems are a very big plus.
-    Knowledge of internationalization, localization and web accessibility standards are a plus.
-    Familiarity and interest in retail/fashion is a plus
