10/17/2007 10:20 AM Alert

Hi -

I recently attended the Fusion conference and am eager to start using the tool at client sites.

BUT, here's my dilemma... The client I recently joined just chose Axure over iRise in a recent tool comparison (before I got here, of course).   They have limited licenses for axure, and will not give me one.  I, on the other hand, already have an irise licence and would like to start using it.  They pushed back and said that they will get me a licence "when i need it" (which is now).  iRise has offered to support my development of the Hi-Fi solution with one of there experienced developers.  How do you pass that up?

Anyway, any ideas on what I should do?  Any feedback on the tool comparison?

thanx

Scott wrote an article on the different simulation tools out there. Hope this helps. The article is a little old so some things may have changed.

Thanks mocciaj. Very interesting comparisons for all prototyping tools. As you said, it is from last year (before iRise 6.0 came out.) It seems that Axure is cheaper, but lacks advance capabilities.

If I read the article right, it seems that Axure cannot do field level validations or any data related interactions, which is a huge minus in my eyes. This is where you get a ton of useful information. I'd have to disagree that these prototyping tools cannot simulate desktop apps (for business purposes). If you can simulate SAP, that's enough for me.

Any other points of view?

thanks

Does anyone have a copy of the article Scott wrote outside of the link provided in this thread? My company blocks pretty much everything, useful or not. If Catalyze had 'blog' or 'forum' in the address they'd block that too.

If not, no biggie, I can try to get it from home. Just curious what else is out there. I think it's better to know when pushing for one over the other.

I haven't used Axure, but I talk to a lot of people who have and who are evaluating iRise (by was of disclaimer, I work for iRise selling to mid-market clients). Most acknowledge that iRise delivers a more realistic experience of the proposed software. I don't know if it is still true, but I was told that Axure has some limitations on how much data you can incorporate into the model (10 data items?). It may not apply to your situation, but iRise is a server-based collaborative platform, so multiple people can work on the simulation at once, while stakeholders can review and comment on them in real time. I have had two clients use the word "clunky" to describe the Axure tool, but it's hard to evaluate such comments.
