I just recently stumbled upon "The Back of the Napkin" by Dan Roam. It was released this year and explores what we iRise users and other visual thinkers have been preaching. Visual thinking and the ability to visually represent such thinking is more powerful than textual based methods.  Of course Dan's book doesn't cover every industry or job however it does help promote a more effective means of communication.  Also worth checking out is his site, it's fun and whimsical, a nice diversion in the world of boring self-promotional sites.

Let me know if you read it and if you pick anything up, would like to hear the communities thoughts on visual vs. textual communication.

Just a thought on the visual vs. textual thing: I read somewhere (in a college psych class I think ) that most people are visual learners and something like 90% of people understand things better when they are drawn out or worked out visually.

I would say that the greatest problem facing requirements management at this time is the reliance on the textual descriptions and not the visual base. Text is fine, but it should back up the visual, not the other way around.
