Job description: Job Title: Business Analyst
REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Project Management

NYTimes.com is looking for an experienced IT business analyst to drive the definition of our online software products. The position calls for someone who can take initiative, work independently, and learn on the job quickly in a fast-moving, informal environment.

Responsibilities
1. Drive, gather and document business and technical requirements for NYTimes.com software projects.
2. Create use cases, write software requirements specification documents, and create prototypes using Irise.
3. Work closely with project managers, technical leads, information architects, product managers, and other stakeholders.
4. Balance the needs of the business and the technology groups, demonstrate in-depth knowledge of supported products, and understand the technology impact on supported business areas.
5. Communicate business and product knowledge to the developers and ensure that high-level business requirements have been properly translated into usable functional requirements.
6. Help Manage changes to baseline requirements through change control processes and maintain requirements traceability throughout each project.
7. Work closely with QA to develop test cases and to help identify bugs. Participate in UAT, and ensure that stated requirements are actually implemented.

Requirements
1. At least four years experience as a business analyst on Web software development projects, preferably public content-based websites.
2. Experience running requirements workshops, conducting interviews, and other requirements elicitation techniques.
3. Experience with prototyping and visualization tools, particularly Irise.
4. Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate between technical and non-technical personnel.
5. Ability to take ownership of complex situations and mediate between competing interests, personalities and requirements. Ability to identify options, suggest solutions, and force decisions to advance a project.
6. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to conscientiously manage and follow up on multiple concurrent tasks and requests on tight deadlines.
7. Knowledge of Web technologies including exposure to scripting languages such as Perl, PHP and Python, and familiarity with AMP environments.
8. B.S. in CS, IT, Business or Communications preferred.
